Early Learning Centre Team Lead

Job Description

Term: Full-time permanent (40 hours per week)

Closing Date: January 21st, 2023

Reporting To: Family Centre Coordinator or their designate

Position Summary

The Team Lead ECE position is directly supported by their Coordinator who will provide administrative support to this position 2 days a week in person and 3 days a week virtually. The Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring these duties are completed and will mentor the Team Lead ECE in learning these duties.

The Team Lead ECE is also required to meet the terms of the Early Learning Centre – ECE job description and provide direct care to children in the program as part of their position.

Specific Responsibilities

Finance:

  • Managing funding for the daycare (government funding, childcare subsidy, grants, parent fees)
  • Monthly invoicing for parents
  • Monthly invoicing for Affordable Child Care Benefit and Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative through the BC government
  • Reporting to government for grants and funding
  • Annual budgeting with Coordinator
  • Budgeting monthly costs around supplies, food, facility costs

Staffing:

  • Planning staff schedule each month/week
  • Managing staff sick and vacation leave
  • Supporting staff through conflict management
  • Coordinating staff professional development
  • Facilitating staff meetings and guiding discussions among staff

Programming:

  • Ensuring ECE staff are planning curriculum each week/month
  • Ensuring planning is being documented and delivered by staff
  • Ensuring program planning is meeting the developmental needs of all of the children

Health and Safety:

  • Ensuring facility is compliant with all licensing regulations
  • Monitoring and being responsible that all health and safely protocols are being followed (re: Incident reports, fire drills, food safety, cleaning duties, First Aid, etc.)
  • Ensuring staff are demonstrating safe guidance with children at all times

Parent Communication:

  • Clear and daily communication with parents about their child
  • Ensuring morning (drop off) and afternoon (pick up) check ins are occurring with parents
  • Scheduling parent meetings for specific conversations
  • Communicating with parents around invoices and fees due

Children with diverse abilities:

  • Managing Individual care plans for children with diverse abilities, ensuring care plans are documented and involve staff and family input
  • Ensuring adaptations are made for individual children in relation to their abilities at daycare
  • Referrals to external professional services such as OT, PT, SLP, Behaviour support, Mental Health support, pediatricians, etc. for needs identified at daycare
  • Staff planning to ensure children with diverse abilities are receiving the care they require

Facility:

  • Ensuring facility is safe and in good operating condition
  • Coordinating with Maintenance and Infrastructure department around needs of the facility including repairs
  • Ensuring cleaning of the facility and safety of the facility, both inside and outside, is compliant with licensing regulations

Education/Training/Certification

REQUIRED:

  • Early Childhood Education Diploma
  • Certified ECE with the ECE Registry of BC with License to Practice as an ECE in BC
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (with acceptable Drivers Abstract)
  • Valid First Aid with CPR Level B
  • Valid Food Safe Certificate
  • Acceptable Criminal Record Check (with Vulnerable Sector Search)
  • Personal health declaration (form provided)
  • Immunization record up to date/declaration (form provided)
  • TB Screen is required annually
  • Professional oral and written communication skills
  • Basic Computer skills (Microsoft Office applications)

Working Conditions

  • The childcare facility is licensed for 16 children per day, ages 30 months – school entry age
  • Indoor and outdoor activities
  • Standing, bending, crouching, some lifting
  • Wage dependent on qualifications / experience
  • Hours of Work: 8 hour per day, one paid 30-minute break per day, 5 days a week
  • Ability to lift (up to 25 kg)

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years experience working in BC licensed childcare programs (an asset)
  • Experience working with First Nations children (an asset)
  • Previous supervisory experience (an asset)

The Early Learning Centre – Team Lead must provide the following documentation upon hire:

  • Sign a Confidentiality Agreement and Code of Ethics
  • Sign a copy of the USIB Personnel Policy
